The new Halstead Jewelry Supply Catalog 2018 is the perfect resource for your studio. It’s 200+ pages of brand-new and bestselling items, tips & hints, the latest trends and information you’ll want to keep right on your bench all year long.
As Halstead president Hilary Halstead Scott says, “We understand that supply sourcing is not why you became a jeweler. Buying materials and findings is rarely the part of the job that jewelers jump out of bed to do. We know that our role is to take the headaches out of sourcing so you can spend more time on what you love: making.”
Here’s an overview of what you’ll find in this year’s catalog. In addition to thousands of products, we also feature a variety of artists, industry organizations and schools, innovative resources, technique and ordering information – and you!
Our catalog is packed with thousands of items, from footage jewelry chain to charms and more, with most at actual size for easy reference. The relative size of our products is so much easier to grasp when you see it in print. You can easily match your favorite chain with the best clasp, or coordinate a charm with the perfect ear wire.
The catalog is a really great partner to our website. In print, you can get a sense of the scale of our products. On the web, you can see additional product details that do not fit on printed pages plus 1000+ additional jewelry supplies that are only shown online. Be sure to check out our New Items and Clearance sections often. You’ll also get up-to-date information about availability and can online chat about your order with one of our customer service representatives.
This year’s edition includes features on 2017 Halstead Grant Winner Kristen Baird and the jewelry of the Finalists: Alexandra Scarlett, Emily Shaffer Studio, Kelsey Grape, Stacy Rodgers, Alexandra Lozier, Lucia Pearl, Made Line Jewelry Co., Tenzabelle and VLM Jewelry. Their work represents some of the best work being done by emerging designers today.
We’re also pleased to feature lampwork glass artist Aja Vaz. Aja’s beads are organic and inventive. You’ll love her Abstract Organics hollow glass beads that are the perfect accompaniment to the lapidary stone trend.
Halstead Preferred Teacher Jeff Fulkerson is our featured metalsmith this year. We enjoyed spending time with Jeff last summer when he taught a workshop for Halstead staff. Learn from him online or in person at one of his many workshops. See some of his work and tips in our catalog.
We also include numerous organizations and teaching studios from across the country – we love our jewelry making community!
“Our relationships extend to organizations and events throughout the jewelry community. In fact, community is a defining pillar of our mission. You will see grassroots Halstead support for events large and small ranging from the 2018 ECU Symposium to Society of North American Goldsmith (SNAG) programs, the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB) Gathering and many more. We believe in bringing makers together to learn, share and support each other,” says Halstead Scott.
The Halstead Design Challenge is one of our favorite projects of the year. It’s a fundraiser for SNAG that raises over $7000 and drives a tremendous amount of engagement in the community. In the catalog, we feature the work and artist statement of 2017 1st place winner Jim Bové. You’ll also find the brooches of 2nd place winner Thomas Mann and 3rd place winner Kelly Jean Conroy. The 2018 Halstead Design Challenge is already underway. Watch the blog and our social media for updates. Results will be announced in June.
This year’s featured schools in the catalog include The Smithery, Studio JSD, Flourish & Thrive Academy, Revere Academy, Pratt Fine Arts Center, Lillstreet, Michael Sturlin Studio, Armory Art Center, Creative Side Jewelry Academy, Flux Metal Arts, Harold Studio, Academy of Art University, Metalwerx and Jewelry Creations Workshop.
We’re excited to introduce My Jewelry Collection, a new way to turn your customers into collectors. We recommend giving them the book for free and doing some of the work by attaching your business card or jewelry box tag in the very first section.
The book is 4×4.5in and 48 pages. The pages have a place to include a photo or business card, the artist’s name and notes about the jewelry. We all know how easy it is to forget when/where you purchased something. This book allows your customers to keep track of their collections.
You can fill-in the book based on their purchases with you or just show them how to do it. This is a fun thank you/incentive for your repeat customers or people who buy high-priced pieces. It’s one part tiny scrapbook and one part serious record.
We include lots of helpful information like our popular Pricing Your Jewelry guide. You’ll also find tips about choosing a hammer, prong-setting stones and more. We have tips from Jeff Fulkerson, including the following: “Use the hottest part of the flame to heat your metal, which is right at the tip of the blue pencil inside the flame. The orange part of the flame will cause your metal to turn dirty, which can prevent good solder joins.”
All of our terms and conditions are in the catalog, too, including order cut-off times, minimums and other FAQs. Looking for something in particular? Worried about an out of stock item? Our service team is trained to help customers solve problems, so text or call and let us help you. 1-800-528-0535.
