We asked our friends at Xuron to explain the difference between their tools and others. Read on to learn what makes them unique.

What You Should Know About Xuron® Tools

Jewelers have been using Xuron® tools for decades but you may have only recently heard of these precision tools. So, what do you need to know about this line of superior pliers and cutters?

Xuron Corp. has a proven history of quality and innovation

Founded in 1971, Xuron Corp. began with one tool that was designed specifically for cutting component lead wires on printed circuit boards. To meet the needs of new markets and applications, new tools were developed and today Xuron Corp. manufactures over 100 different types of cutters, pliers and specialty tools. One constant through the years is the commitment to producing a quality product that delivers excellent results and value.

Micro-Shear® Flush Cutting Technology

Xuron Corp. is the original inventor of the Micro-Shear® blade by-pass cutting technology.  What does this mean? A traditional wire cutter’s blades meet sharp edge to sharp edge.  The micro-shear® blades slightly bypass. This produces a cleaner, flatter cut and extends the life of the blades.

Micro-Shear Flush Cutter X473

Micro-Shear® Flush Cutter X473

An essential tool for bead stringers. This cutter is perfect for flexible stranded beading cable as well as soft wire up to an 18 ga.  (1 mm). The slim profile of the cutter head means you can reach into small spaces and cut close to a clasp, bead or other finding.

Maxi-Shear Flush Cutter X475

Maxi-Shear™ Flush Cutter

A heavy-duty cutter that is ideal for metalsmiths, chainmaillers and those working with larger soft wires/metals up to 12 ga. (2 mm). Handles are approximately 6” (152 mm) long and shaped to fit well in larger to medium size hands to provide good cutting leverage. This is a perfect ‘go-to’ cutter and the bright handle will always be visible on your work bench!

Micro-Shear Flush Cutter with Wire Retainer X476

Oval Head Micro-Shear® Flush Cutter with Wire Retainer  X476

The oval shaped cutter head lends itself perfectly to all types of wire work. This is a very strong, long-lasting cutter that will give you years of use. This tool features the addition of a little something special – a handy device that holds cut-off pieces of wire, allowing you to keep your workspace neater and easily reclaim your precious metal scraps. The wire retaining clip works best when cutting soft wire that is 18 ga. (1 mm) or smaller.

Double Flush Cutter X469

Double Flush Cutter X469

The term, ‘double flush’ refers to the resulting flat cut you will get on both the cut and cut-off piece of wire. Can be used on soft wire up to 12 ga. (1 mm) or half-hard wire up to 16 ga. (1.3 mm).

Hard Wire Cutter X460

Hard Wire Cutter X460

The only tool you should use to cut memory wire, steel or hard wire. The cutting blades of this tool completely bypass, causing them to break the wire rather than squeeze it in order to cut. As a result, both the cut and cut-off pieces of wire are nearly perfectly flat. Works equally well on both round and flat memory wire. Cuts hard wire up to 18 ga. (1 mm) and soft wire up to 12 ga. (2 mm).

Metal Shears X464

Metal Shears X464

Smooth scissor blades (non-serrated), return spring and handles without finger loops make this a comfortable and easy to use metal shear. Excellent for metalsmiths cutting sheets of soft metal up to 20 ga. (0.8 mm) thick. The blades also cut jump rings leaving a flat end on both sides of the wire ring.

Tweezer Nose Pliers X466

Tweezer Nose™ Pliers X466

The blades are fine, precise, and match perfectly in alignment, size and shape. Capable of picking up and holding delicate parts, while strong enough to form and bend wire. Great for tucking-in small wires.

Narrow Flat Nose Pliers X472

Narrow Flat Nose Pliers X472

Flat, straight blades are ideal for bending, forming and flattening both wire and soft metals. As opposed to chain nose pliers, the flat nose has wider blades that provide a stronger grip.  Xuron’s flat nose are narrower and more exact than others on the market.

  • I have been using Xuron tools since 2011. I still have my first pair of Maxi Shear Flush Cutters and they are like new. I use them on all of my jewelry projects and they seem like they are indestructible. I have several pair of cutters and pliers now and love them all. With the quality of these tools, there is really no need to purchase much more expensive tools. I do have a few pair of specialty tools that were much more expensive, but most of the time my go to tools are Xuron.

  • I LOVE all of my Xuron pliers and just keep adding to my collection. My micro-shears have been a joy, I love my bent nose and flat nose for chainmail, I love my new chisel nose (haven’t used them too much yet, but have liked them when I have), love my round nose… haven’t had a bad one in the bunch yet. I even have an extra pair of bent nose and flat nose that I carry with me at all times for “on the go” repairs or chainmailing. Thank you so much!!!
