The new series #2300 of Beads, Baubles & Jewels starts airing on PBS and CREATE later this month and we’re excited to share this sneak peek of Hilary Halstead Scott’s appearance on the show. In under 20 minutes, Hilary introduces the Halstead Grant program, talks about building a trend board, discusses the merits of rose-gold filled and shows us how to make a simple pair of textured earrings. Good stuff!
What you don’t see in this jewelry making video is how many hours of preparation went into demonstrating jewelry making on TV. Visuals have to be gathered and/or made in advance, along with all demonstration materials and jewelry eye candy. If you’ve made videos promoting your jewelry business, you know how challenging it can be to get everything just right.
I always want to go back and edit what I said or keep repeating my demonstration until it’s all totally perfect, which is just totally cost-prohibitive/impossible in TV production land. We film each segment from beginning to end in order to get the most authentic experience for the viewer. It’s a good lesson, really: do your best and then let it go.
And, it turns out that Hilary and I feel the same reluctance about watching ourselves on camera. She took one look at this video and exclaimed about her hair being a lot bigger than she’s used to. I think it looks great, but totally understand how maximum hold hairspray can have a mind of its own.
After we filmed this segment, we celebrated with Chinese take-out and a glass of wine, which was just what the doctor ordered! Watch the video here or visit www.BeadsBaublesandJewels.com for more information about the show. Starting October 1st, you’ll also be able to watch it on YouTube, along with all of the Halstead Jewelry Minute videos from HalsteadBead.com.
